Not quite a flying start to Colchester United’s League Two campaign, with an away draw at Meadow Lane, but we’ll take a point!
The U’s were unlucky not to take all three points on the 75th minute when Eastman’s shot thundered off the bar, seeing keeper Fitzsimons well beaten.
U’s keeper Barnes saw the best of the early action turning away Boldewijn’s low shot. Nouble soon earned a corner from a clean run down the left only to see the resulting goal-bound header from Kent blocked by Brisley.
Nouble was one of three players making their full Colchester United debuts. The other two were midfielder Pell and Wolves loanee Collins.
The U’s looked comfortable for the remainder of the first half, the only trouble being Thomas’ shot which ricocheted off Prosser to give County a corner.
Prosser had a strong game, blocking Hemmings to deny him a goal scoring opportunity just after the restart.
Szmodics was soon in action, chipping the ball to Collins to set him up nicely, however Collins lost his footing and a goal remained elusive.
The woodwork denied United a goal in the 75th minute, as Eastman’s shot beat Fitzsimons only to bounce back off the bar.
Next up Port Vale at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on Saturday 11th August.
